Neorealism, also known as Italian neorealism, is an extremely influential film movement that lasted from 1944 to 1952. Films influenced by neorealism often were extremely low budget, with performances from non professional actors and dealt with themes of poverty, depression, injustice and desperation set in a post World War 2 Italy. Several significant figures of the movement were Federico Fellini, Roberto Rossolini, Giuseppe de Santis, Vittorio De Sica and Roberto Lattuada.  A significant film in the movement was Bicycle Thieves which released in 1948 and is considered one of the greatest films ever.

The inciting incident is the event that gets the story started. A great example of this was from the film A Quiet Place, where the inciting incident was the mother going into labor. With that, it throws the entire family into panic mode trying to avoid death from murderous aliens while delivering the newest member of the family.

 I'm not the biggest fan of experimental film, to be completely honest. I find I am more confused than anything and I don't get engaged in it. Personally, I prefer film with a focus on narrative. And I respect the art of experimental film, it's just not my personal taste. With that in mind, I went into this film "Ghost Algebra" with an open mind. And unfortunately, this reinforced that. From what I got from it, I think it was a cool concept but overall I was just left wondering what the creator was trying to tell me. There was also plenty of creepy imagery which set the tone. One cool aspect of these films though, is the thought that there is some hidden message or idea behind the imagery and music.
